Fundación Mi Sangre
Fundación Mi Sangre is Spanish for "My Blood Foundation."
Juanes founded Fundación Mi Sangre in 2006. The organization first aimed to help victims of anti-personnel mine explosions in Colombia. Today, this non-profit organization encourages peace and believes that every person is capable of being a peace-builder. It provides protective environments for children and young people. Fundación Mi Sangre implements methodologies for peace education and psychosocial support through art and play. The foundation addresses issues such as forced recruitment, child labor, drug use, and different types of violence and violation of human rights. Education for PeacePAZalobien Methodology (“Pazalobien” – a word that combines the expression “have a good time” and “peace”)
Through the use of the PAZalobien Methodology, Fundación Mi Sangre hopes to encourage young people to develop creativity, participation, and perspective concerning their rights. They are then able to recognize themselves as individuals with rights and develop peace-building skills. Pazalobien also works with adults to create democratic and safe environments in order to stop the violation of the rights of children, teenagers and youths. Psychosocial Support Fundación Mi Sangre provides psychosocial support to young people and adults. This aims to heal wounds, create safe environments, and strengthen social skills in violent areas through the Weaving Life Methodology. The Weaving Life Methodology uses art, recreational activities, and psychotherapy to build social skills in order to create wellbeing and conscientiousness for individuals, families, and communities.

Paz Sin FronterasOn March 16, 2008, the first Paz Sin Fronteras benefit concert took place on the Simón Bólivar Bridge; this is located on the border between Colombia and Venezuela. This concert celebrated the peaceful ending of a political conflict between Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. 300,000 people attended the concert to watch their favorite performers: Juanes, Carlos Vives, Juan Luís Guerra, Ricardo Montaner, Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bosé, and Juan Fernando Velasco.

Paz Sin Fronteras IIOn September 20, 2009, the second benefit concert—Paz Sin Fronteras II—took place in the Plaza de Revolución in Havana, Cuba. The purpose of this concert was to break down barriers between people and bring unity through music. Although the concert was a success with 1.5 million fans showing up to see their favorite musicians, many believed that the move was controversial on Juanes’ part. Many Cuban exiles based in Miami protested the benefit concert, saying that it supported Castro’s Communist Cuba. Demonstrators went so far as to destroy Juanes’ CD’s or send him death threats. Even though Juanes’ life was in possible danger, he continued with the concert because the benefit was about unity and reconciliation; it was not about politics.
Performers: Juanes, Amaury Pérez, Danny Rivera, Juan Fernando Velasco, Jovanotti, Luis Eduardo Aute, Miguel Bosé, Olga Tañón, Orishas, Silvio Rodríguez, Los Van Van, Carlos Varela, Víctor Manuel, CuCu Diamantes y Yerba Buena, and X Alfonso |
Immigration Concert
On January 20, 2016, Juanes and John Legend—the American singer and songwriter—preformed a concert in Arizona outside of the Eloy Immigration Detention Center. Arizona has the harshest deportation and immigration laws in the United States, and in this detention center there are currently an estimated 1,500 immigrants being held. Before the concert, Juanes and John Legend took tours of the facility. Although the two artists wanted to perform inside the detention center, they were denied permission and preformed on a small stage outside of it. The goal of this concert was to highlight our countries misguided immigration and deportation policies.
